IEPCP E-Bulletin November, 2011
And what else is happening at the IEPCP?
The IEPCP are involved with various projects throughout the year but it's hard to keep informed about these, so a few have been showcased for you this month.
- The Opening Doors program - The IEPCP partnered with this social inclusion program which teaches members of the community the strengths, skills and confidence they need to help develop a more socially inclusive society in the Inner East through their own local project implementation. A graduation was recently held for the 20 participants whose projects covered areas ranging from mental health to problem gambling.
- The Stroke Survivors' Initiative - Consumer Consultants. This initiative of the IEPCP Practitioners' Resource Group has resulted in agreement with Inner East CHS to work together to obtain a grant to run a one year pilot. The aim of the pilot is to use a Consumer Consultant (who has survived a stroke) to create linkages between the acute and community sectors in Boroondara, where stroke patients are discharged at the rate of around nine a week. The Consumer Consultant will be based at IECHS and will also be responsible for implementing a 'Life After Stroke' program.
- The What Were We Thinking Pilot in the City of Monash has been successfully completed. This post natal depression prevention project was facilitated by the IEPCP and implemented jointly by the Jean Hailes Foundation of Monash University, bestchance Child and Family Services and Maternal and Child Health Services in the City of Monash. Jean Hailes Foundation has since been awarded $700,000 by the National Health and Medical Research Council for implementation in a further eight LGAs across Victoria.

Service Coordination Steering Committee
The IEPCP Service Coordination Steering Committee met on 16 November. A major topic discussed was how service coordination training should be conducted in the IEPCP catchment. One suggestion is that the Self Paced Training Module should be the cornerstone. Contact christopher.foley-jones@iepcp.org.au to find out what this is.
2011 Statewide Service Coordination & ICDM Survey closed!!!
The relentless nagging by the IEPCP to complete the 2011 Statewide survey is at an end. Participation rates were uneven but overall there were more responses this year. More agencies are getting the point of doing it - to create a benchmark against which to assess their own performance. Thanks to all who participated.
