Wednesday 8th June: Dementia and Risk

Speaker: Professor Ibrahim ignites debate as he speaks of the dignity of risk in aged care.

Do aged care services overregulate safety and impinge on the choices and rights of persons with dementia in care? How do we know if we have an appropriate balance between individual freedoms and regulatory safety structures in aged care? What makes us uncomfortable when people living with dementia want to take risks? Do we ‘mollycoddle’ people living with dementia? If there’s no living without risk are we killing people with dementia with kindness?
